This recording is the Loma Prieta Oral History of Robert Crockett who was the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) coordinator for Caltrans in San Francisco. Before the Loma Prieta earthquake he was working as Supervisor, Branch Chief in the Maintenance Office for District 4 responsible for updating and preparation of the District 4. He was a retired Caltrans employee who was called in to assist in writing the plan. When the actual earthquake happened, Crockett was at his home in Marin County. At first he felt the earthquake but didn't think it was so bad because there was very little shaking at his home. Two weeks after the earthquake he contacted Caltrans and offered his services to the department and he was asked if he as available to coordinate FEMA reimbursement claims activities. The rest of the interview describes the specifics of what he did and what Caltrans could do differently when there was another disaster.
